Baotou Steel posts record high outputs in August 2008

In August 2008, Chinese steelmaker Baotou Steel recorded historical highs in terms of monthly output of pig iron, semis and finished steel. During the period in question, the mill produced 843,900 mt of pig iron, 881,900 mt of crude steel and 822,200 mt of commercial grade semi-finished products. Meanwhile, its main production indexes have reached the most positive levels since the beginning of 2008; for example, the coke ratio in the blast furnace is down to 415.32 kg.

In the first eight months of 2008, Baotou Steel registered pig iron production of 6.2162 million mt, its crude steel production stood at 6.3684 million mt while its semi-finished product output hit 6.0637 million mt. Based on its August crude steel output figure of 881,900 mt, Baotou Steel has already had the capacity to produce 10 million mt of crude steel annually.

In August 2008, Baotou produced 146,200 mt of rail beams and 81,400 mt of steel rails. Meanwhile, Baotou Bar Mill has successfully developed 280 mm diameter round bar and has recorded a historic high in its output of high-speed wire rods at 42,100 mt.

In the eighth month of 2008, exports of Baotou's semi-finished products totaled 90,800 mt, bringing in $91.6869 million in foreign currency.
