On May 15, 2007, the sheet plant of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region-based Baotou Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. (Baotou Steel) succeeded in producing 210 metric tons of hot rolled dual-phase steel coils. Under strict tests, the mechanical properties of the product met the necessary quality requirements. This is the first time that a Chinese steel mill has produced hot rolled dual-phase steel coils.

Compared with other steel products of the same tensile strength, hot rolled dual-phase steel coil, which is mainly used in producing auto body and structural parts, has better elasticity. It is expected to contribute to reducing steel consumption in automobile manufacture.
