Chinese steel giant Baosteel has announced that it has developed production of 50 mm and 80 mm thick HIC (hydrogen-induced crack)-resistant steel plate for pressure containers at its five meter-wide plate production line.

The product in question is mainly applied in the petroleum and chemical sectors. At present, Chinese demand for HIC-resistant steel plate is mainly dependent on imports and so Baosteel's development of the product will help relieve China's dependence on imported products.
