In the first nine months of the current year, Chinese steel giant Baosteel's average inventory of continuously cast steel slab was 42,000 mt, decreasing by 42.9 percent year on year, and constituting a record low.

To cope with the difficult market environment and increasing raw material costs, at the beginning of 2011 Baosteel management had decided to put increased focus on low costs and low inventory.
