According to Inner Mongolia-based Chinese steel producer Baotou Iron and Steel (Baogang Group), in the current year up to early April its orders received for steel plate used in wind power applications amounted to 194,000 mt, with the orders in question coming from companies such as China GuoDian (Group) Corporation, China Power Investment Corporation, China Huaneng Group, China Huadian Corporation and China Datang Corporation.

Baogang stated that this order volume was a good achievement amid the overall weakening of demand in the wind power steel market. Investment in wind power projects in China this year is reported to be down 50 percent as compared to 2011, resulting in lower demand for steel used in the wind power sector.
