The Ukrainian iron ore and steel producing company Metinvest Holding (Metinvest) has announced that its subsidiary Azovstal has conducted a hot testing of its new slab concaster No. 6.

With the new caster coming on stream, Azovstal will be able to produce slabs in 220 mm, 250 mm and 300 mm sizes, with thicknesses in a range of 1,200-2,000 mm. The main advantage of the new caster is in its casting speed and also in the high quality of slabs produced.

The commissioning of operations at the new slab concaster No. 6 will allow Azovstal to increase its annual slab capacity to 6.5 million mt.
