Average steel product prices in China soften in late April

In late April (April 21-30) this year, the average prices in the Chinese domestic spot market of 16-25 mm HRB400 rebar, 6.5 mm HPB300 wire rod, 20 mm Q235 common medium plates, 3 mm Q235 hot rolled sheet, 219 mm x 6 mm seamless pipe and 5 mm x 5 mm angles were recorded at RMB 3,314/mt ($540.6/mt), RMB 3,389.8/mt ($552.9/mt), RMB 3,516.6/mt ($573.7/mt), RMB 3,518.6/mt ($573.9/mt), RMB 4,264.9/mt ($695.7/mt) and RMB 3,512.5/mt ($573.0/mt), down RMB 61/mt ($9.9/mt), RMB 20.5/mt ($3.3/mt), RMB 5.8/mt ($0.95/mt), RMB 29.3/mt ($4.8/mt), RMB 6.9/mt ($1.1/mt) and RMB 8.9/mt ($1.5/mt), indicating respective declines of 1.8 percent, 0.6 percent, 0.2 percent, 0.8 percent, 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent compared to prices in mid-April (Apr. 11-20), as announced by China's National Bureau of Statistics on May 5.
