Russian steel producer Ashinskiy Metallurgical Works (Ashinskiy) has signed a contract with state-owned Ukrainian institute for designing iron and steel works GP Ukrgipromez for the development of technical and technological tasks in the construction of its new flat rolling shop for the production of hot rolled plates.

Accordingly, the new flat rolling shop No. 1 will have an annual capacity of not less than 800,000 mt of rolled products and is planned to be commissioned no later than 2015.

Ashinskiy's existing flat rolling shop No. 1, with an annual capacity of up to 600,000 mt of plates, was commissioned in 1952 but no longer meets modern requirements.

Following the start up in April 2010 of its new 120-ton electric arc furnace (EAF-120) with an annual capacity of one million mt, Ashinskiy will have completed the reconstruction of its steelmaking production and will be able to direct its investments into the radical modernization of its rolling production.
