The Italian steelmaker Arvedi has announced that its new AR-COLD strip processing complex, composed of a continuous pickling plant with an in-line tandem cold rolling mill (3-stand 6-Hi) has started production in Cremona, northern Italy, where a hot dip galvanizing plant has also been installed.

Accordingly, AR-COLD is the first integrated pickling and cold rolling plant for processing a complete mix of hot rolled strip in a single passage at maximum table width of 1,560 mm down to a minimum gauge of 0.2 mm ready for hot dip galvanizing.

The new department processes the hot rolled coil from the Arvedi ESP® (endless strip production) line, started up in 2009 and now fully operative.

"The pickled, cold rolled and galvanized strip obtained from the Arvedi ESP® and AR-COLD processes, which use the most advanced technology, guarantees homogeneous quality characteristics and extraordinary precision for the full benefit of the end-user," said Arvedi in its statement.

The products have a thickness range of 0.2 to 2 mm, have a maximum width of 1,560 mm, exist in drawing, structural and HSLA steel grades, and will serve a wide range of applications in the automotive, white goods, painting and building industries.

The overall processing capacity of the investments is 1.2-1.4 million mt per year.
