Cremona-based Italian steelmaker Arvedi announced on November 26 that a local judge has issued an order allowing the resumption of operations at its EAF No. 2 oven, following measures taken recently to ensure safety conditions at the oven. Accordingly, Arvedi initiated procedures for the reactivation of the oven and the resumption of
production, the company said in its press release.
A fire broke out at the oven on November 2, following two other accidents which occurred at Arvedi's facilities within the previous one-month period.
The resulting
production stoppages caused a slowdown in operations at Arvedi's tube plant and galvanizing plant. Coils were bought from other steel mills to allow the continuation of processing activities. The halt of
production eventually caused a reduction in Arvedi's scrap consumption, reinforcing the downtrend of scrap prices in the Italian market.
