The Metal Workers Union of Argentina (UOMRA) announced a work stoppage in the country’s steel industry Tuesday after proposing a wage increase of 29.93 percent.

The proposal was presented during negotiations with ArcelorMittal and Techint, calculated on basic salaries applicable to the national collective agreement in the steel industry--the same percentage that UOMRA agreed to with other metallurgical business chambers in March.
