Argentina's steel industry is expected to make investments of around US$470 million during 2013 to increase production capacity and improve product quality.  The amount represents a 20 percent increase from investment totals in 2012, according to a report by the Steel Chamber Argentina.

The chamber also reported that crude steel production in Argentina--which is one of the top 30 steel producing countries in the world--totaled 320,800 tons in January, a 3.9 percent decrease from December 2012 and 19.2 percent decrease January 2012 totals, due mostly to the effect of planned outages in some plants.
