Argentina’s crude steel production in September this year decreased by 5.7 percent month on month, to 446,400 mt, down 3.1 percent compared to September 2014, the country's steel chamber (CAA) has stated. In the January-September period, crude steel production in Argentina totaled 3.78 million mt, down 7.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

Argentina's hot rolled finished steel production in September fell 14.9 percent month on month and 17 percent year on year to 336,700 mt, while its cold rolled flat steel production in the given month decreased by 26.9 percent month on month and by 1.7 percent year on year to 104,500 mt.

The CAA said that the Latin American steel industry is being negatively affected by the huge excess production capacity, installed mainly in China, coupled with the problems facing the Brazilian economy and the fall in the oil industry.
