Argentina's largest longs steelmaker, Acindar, from the ArcelorMittal group, expects to increase steel output in 2017 by nearly 10 percent, year-on-year, local media said.

The improved outlook is due to an increased demand in public works and the recovery of different local industrial sectors.

“We came from a very complicated 2016, since it was the first year of a government transition, which had its impacts on Acindar’s sales levels. But indicators are improving and the outlook is positive due to the reactivation of public works and infrastructure,” said Facundo Velasco, manager for legal and institutional affairs at Acindar.

Acindar expects to produce 1.05 million mt of steel in 2017, 9.2 percent up, year-on-year, from 962,000 mt in 2016, but still below 2015 levels, when it produced 1.25 million mt.
