On Tuesday, international news outlets reported that ArcelorMittal and Brazilian flat rolled steelmaker and iron ore mining company Usiminas are in talks to make a joint bid for the Area do Meio port area at Sepetiba in Rio de Janeiro. Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro is expected to put the iron ore port area up for auction sometime later this year.

ArcelorMittal, which has iron ore mining operations in Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, will be able to ship the iron ore more efficiently. Usiminas announced last year plans to develop a consortium in order to make a bid for the port. Usiminas is currently expanding its iron ore mining operations in Minas Gerais.
