Luxembourg-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal has announced that its Bosnia and Herzegovina-based subsidiary ArcelorMittal Zenica has reached an important milestone in its ongoing environmental program, with the official start of operations on a major new filter system for its blast furnace. The dedusting system with minimum operating and repair costs was designed, manufactured and installed by the Turkish plantmaker CVS Makina. The new dedusting system enables the plant to comply with European standards.

ArcelorMittal Zenica CEO Mukund Kulkarni said that the $8 million project was very complex and demanding in terms of time frame, technical challenges and investment. He added that the state-of-the-art filter was installed while the factory remained in full operation.

The company is already working on a number of other projects that will continue to improve its environmental footprint.
