ArcelorMittal Temirtau sees 32 percent rise in Q1 crude steel output

ArcelorMittal Temirtau, the Kazakhstan-based subsidiary of steel giant ArcelorMittal, has announced that in Q1 this year it increased its crude steel production by 32 percent to 963,300 mt, while its rolled steel product output went up by 19 percent to 784,300 mt, both compared to the same period last year.
 
In addition, in the January-March quarter this year, ArcelorMittal Temirtau's pig iron production went up by 29 percent to 822,300 mt, its sinter production increased by 28 percent to about 1.483 million mt, while its coal output saw a one percent drop to 2.493 million mt, all compared to January-March 2010.
 
"Due to the stabilization of sintering and blast furnace production in March, we managed to reach the targets," reads the company's statement.
 
Currently, ArcelorMittal Temirtau is carrying out the reconstruction of its blast furnace No. 2 and the overhaul of its blast furnace No. 3. In addition, the company is continuing the construction of its new six-strand continuous square billet caster which has a designed annual output capacity of 1.2 million mt and which is planned to be commissioned by the end of 2011.
