ArcelorMittal Temirtau enters longs sector

Arcelor Mittal Temirtau, Kazakhstan-based flat steel producing subsidiary of the world's largest steel producer ArcelorMittal, has announced a $153 million worth investment in the development of long steel production at its facility.

Following the completion of the project, Arcelor Mittal Temirtau plans to produce up to one million metric tons of long products for construction sector needs.

By August 2008, ArcelorMittal Temirtau plans to put into operation a new continuous billet caster, while, up to the end of the current year, the mill plans to produce about 100,000 metric tons of long products - i.e. rebar, angles, channels and profiles.  The annual capacity of the new longs production facility will be increased to 400,000 metric tons in 2009 and to one million metric tons by 2012-2013.
