Australian miner Aquila Resources has received approval from Western Australia's Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) for its west Pilbara iron ore project worth US$5.78 billion. The project has a production target of 30 million mt of direct shipping ore per year.

The project includes a 292 km rail network connecting the mine to a new port facility to be constructed at Anketell Point, west of Cape Lambert.

The Aquila statement said that the company is willing to work with the Western Australian government and still seeks approval from the EPA for Anketell port. The approval for the port is scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year.
