Statistics Canada reported Wednesday that combined rail freight loading originating in Canada and received from the US rose to 26.7 million metric tons (mt) in April--up 8.4 percent from April 2010.

The majority of total Canadian domestic cargo loaded in April was non-intermodal, rising 7.7 percent year-on-year in April. Intermodal loadings were up as well, but a more modest 1.3 percent year-on-year in April. The increase was solely attributed to containerized cargo shipments.
