SteelOrbis Shanghai On November 18, Henan Province-based Anyang Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. commenced production with its new 150-mt converter. On November 20, the daily production of the converter reached 5,194 mt, thus exceeding its designed daily production capacity of 5,040 mt. Anyang Steel is one of the major steel producers in Henan Province. The converter in question is part of the mill's HR sheet production line which is expected to commence operations in March, 2007. However, before then, Anyang Steel will sell the slab produced by the converter to the market - creating new downward pressure on the already weak semis market.
