Anshan Steel signs first Olympics steel contract

Anshan Steel joined the list of steelmakers participating in the construction projects related to the 2008 Beijing Olympics by signing a contract to supply various steel products. The 2008 Beijing Olympics project involves newly constructing or refurbishing more than 70 venues. Total steel demand for the project is estimated at 380’000 tons, of which 300’000 will be rebar and 80’000 will be structural steel. Many Chinese steelmakers are eager to compete for the projects as they see helping out the Olympics effort as a way to improve their company image and popularity. The China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) and Beijing 2008 Olympics Project HQ together choose the steelmakers that will participate in the project. The two associations decided to include Anshan Steel because of the company’s high product quality and fine market competitiveness. Anshan Steel has formed a special development team in order to guarantee steel supply for Olympics project. The company has also organized related departments to keep close eyes on the Olympics project in order to render the best and most timely after-sales service.
