Australian mining giant Anglo American Corporation has announced its production results for the fourth quarter ended on December 31, 2011.

The iron ore output of Anglo American increased by five percent year on year in the given quarter to 12.4 million mt due to initial production from the Kolomela mine and a continued improvement in performance at Amapá. The Kolomela mine, which was commissioned ahead of schedule, delivered 1.2 million mt of iron ore in the quarter in question.

Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter Anglo American's metallurgical coal production increased by four percent to 4.1 million, while its thermal coal production from South Africa and Colombia increased by five percent to 8.6 million mt, both on year-on-year basis. Australian open cut operations reported a record production increase of 57 percent year on year in the given quarter, due to flood recovery actions initiated in the first half of the year.
