UK-based
mining giant
Anglo American Corporation has announced its
production results for the first quarter of the current year.
In the given quarter,
iron ore production from Kumba
Iron Ore increased by 10 percent year on year to 11.3 million mt, while Sishen mine
production rose by 15 percent year on year to 8.7 million mt due to increased plant throughput and the recovery from lower than expected
production in the first quarter of 2013 following the unprotected strike in the fourth quarter of 2012. Implementation of the
production recovery plan at Sishen continued during the first quarter this year, although this was hampered by heavy rainfall.
Anglo American said that the Minas-Rio
iron ore project in Brazil continued to progress in line with the target of achieving first ore on ship by the end of 2014 and with total capital expenditure unchanged at $8.8 billion.
Anglo American's
production guidance for the Sishen and Kolomela mines for the financial year 2013-14 remains unchanged at 44-46 million mt.
Anglo American's export metallurgical coal
production in the first quarter this year increased by 31 percent year on year to 6.05 million mt, while the company's nickel
production increased by 48 percent year on year to 9,200 mt.
