The government of the Australian state of Queensland has given final approval for Australian mining giant Anglo American's Grosvenor coking coal mine, according to media reports.

The coking coal mine to be built with an investment of $1.7 billion near Moranbah, Bowen Basin, will have an annual capacity of 7 million mt, with the first coal export to steel mills scheduled for 2013. The mine will play a vital role in the company's plans to triple its coking coal production by 2020.

The project is expected to create up to 1,000 jobs.
