UK-based mining giant Anglo American Corporation has announced that its Grosvenor project in the Bowen Basin of Queensland, Australia, which was approved for development at the end of 2011, has delivered its first metallurgical coal from its underground longwall seven months ahead of schedule, below budget and in line with environmental obligations.

Anglo American expects Grosvenor to produce 3.2 million mt of saleable metallurgical coal in the current year. At full capacity, the Grosvenor longwall will be capable of producing 7.5 million mt per year. When fully ramped up, Grosvenor is expected to operate at an all-in sustaining unit cost of A$110/mt.
