AK Steel announced Thursday that the company's Middletown, Ohio Works coke plant has received the Max Eward Safety Award from the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute (ACCCI).  The award recognizes AK Steel, along with two other ACCCI member coke facilities, for operating the safest cokemaking facilities in America.  All three coke facilities operated the entire year of 2014 without any OSHA recordable injuries.

The ACCCI recognition marks the 15th time in the past 18 years that an AK Steel coke plant has received the Max Eward Safety Award.  The company's Middletown Works coke plant is now an 11-time recipient of the award.

In addition to AK Steel's Middletown Works coke plant, the company's Rockport (IN) Works operated the entire year of 2014 without any OSHA recordable injuries.
