Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), today urged the Senate Finance Committee to advance the nomination of Robert Lighthizer as US Trade Representative (USTR) and called on the Senate to confirm Ambassador Lighthizer as USTR as soon as possible.

“Bob Lighthizer is eminently qualified to serve in this position, having served with distinction previously at USTR, on Capitol Hill and as a trade attorney in private practice where he represented the American steel industry and other manufacturing industries in numerous trade cases,” Gibson said in a release.

“This experience gives him an unparalleled understanding of the trade-related issues facing the United States, and make him and outstanding choice for USTR. I am confident that he will bring the same dedication and passion to the Office of the US Trade Representative, and we look forward to working with him to continue to ensure aggressive trade enforcement and a level playing field for American manufacturing. We urge the US Senate to swiftly confirm Bob Lighthizer as United States Trade Representative.”
