AIIS is for the cancellation of US safeguard measures on steel imports

The American Institute for International Steel (AIIS) on behalf of the US steel manufacturers, urges Bush administration to cancel the S201 safeguard sanctions in line with the recent WTO ruling that such sanctions violate the international trading rules and instead, focus its efforts on the currently ongoing negotiations on steel trade issues at the OECD. The AIIS president stated that protectionism for the sake of protecting weak companies in the domestic steel industry apparently resulted in further loss for the US in international level. AIIS has previously opposed to these S201 sanctions in February too, claiming that they are not consistent with the US obligations to the WTO while on the other hand supporting other steps that the Bush administration takes for the protection of steel industry. The subsidy elimination work in progress at the OECD is an example for these action supported by AIIS.
