Mexican steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) and steel pipe producer Tubacero have been selected as suppliers for a gas pipeline project located in the county of Webb, Texas, an executive said.

According to Brandon Seale, president at Howard Energy México, the company responsible for building the gas pipeline project in Texas, the two Mexican companies are among several that will supply materials for the initiative.

Tubacero is said to be supplying steel tubes for the project, however, it’s not clear which type of material AHMSA will provide.

AHMSA and Howard Energy México weren’t immediately available on Thursday to explain the role of the Mexican steelmaker in the project.

The project is comprised of a combined 190 miles of minimum 30-inch pipeline, from which 17 miles are in Webb county, in Texas, and 171 miles are in Mexico. Construction of the pipeline is scheduled to begin in mid-2016.
