Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) said on Wednesday it reached an all-time record production in 2016 by producing 4.65 million mt of steel.
According to the company, the production volume reached in 2016 was 4.3 percent higher when compared to the 4.45 million mt of steel it produced in 2015.
“The volume represents the company’s increased capacity reached thanks to the full operation of the units that are part of the Fenix Project, whose goal is to maximize the installed capacity and generate more steel varieties with added-value,” the company said in a filing at the country’s stock exchange, Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV).
AHMSA said it sold 4.25 million mt of steel in both the domestic and the international markets in 2016, 8.1 percent up, year-on-year, from 3.93 million mt of steel sold in 2015.
AHMSA said it sold mainly structural and flat steel, destined to the oil, civil construction, metal mechanic, automotive and appliance industries.
