Affordable housing starts in China total 4.4 million units in H1

China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has announced that in the first half of the current year construction began on 4.4 million affordable housing units, accounting for 69 percent of the target of 6.3 million units for 2013, while the number of completed affordable housing units in the first half totaled 2.36 million, equivalent to around 50 percent of the annual target. Meanwhile, a total of RMB 495 billion ($80.75 billion) was invested in affordable housing construction in China in the first half of the current year.

Completed affordable housing units in 2013 in China are expected to total 4.7 million.
