AFERPI to build new EAF and rolling mill at Piombino, Italy

Algerian group Cevital has signed an agreement with German plantmaker SMS Siemag for the construction of an electric arc furnace (EAF) and a rolling mill for its Italian subsidiary Acciaierie e Ferriere di Piombino S.p.A. (AFERPI), which bought the Piombino-based facilities previously owned by Lucchini. 

The EAF will have a production capacity of one million metric tons, while the rolling mill will be able to produce up to 750,000 metric tons per year of beams, special steel profiles, and rails in lengths of up to 120 meters.

No details have been given regarding the total sum and timing of the investments.
