Accident at Erdemir port

A Turkish dry bulk vessel collided on Friday with two cranes while leaving Erdemir's new port in Karadeniz Eregli, Turkey. The accident caused both cranes to topple into the sea, injuring one operator and killing the other. Officials from Erdemir indicated that the accident did not disrupt the loading or unloading of raw material supplies. However, the officials stressed that Erdemir would not accept vessels that carry huge tonnages of material at the new port. Erdemir will supply its raw material requirement using 65'000 ton-vessels at the company's old port. The old port will be used while new cranes are being built. Construction of the new cranes should be completed by the end of the year.
