US raw steel production drops 1.4 percent week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending November 7, 2015, US domestic raw steel production was 1,618,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 67.7 percent. Production was 1,856,000 net tons in the week ending November 7, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 77.2 percent. The current week production represents a 12.8 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending November 7, 2015 is down 1.4 percent from the previous week ending October 31, 2015 when production was 1,641,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 68.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through November 7, 2015 was 76,125,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.1 percent. That is down 8.2 percent from the 82,942,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.8 percent.
