Brazilian distributors see decline in June, H1 flat steel sales
Sales of flat steel from Brazilian distributors declined 19.5 percent in June, year-on-year, and 4 percent, month-on-month, according to data released on Tuesday by the nation’s steel distributors association, Inda.
According to Inda, Brazilian distributors sold 258,500 mt of steel in June, while purchases of the product in the period reached 236,600 mt, 21.1 percent down, year-on-year, and 6.5 percent lower when compared to the month prior.
According to Inda, sales of steel in the first half of the year totaled 1.8 million mt, 18.6 percent down, year-on-year, while purchases reached 1.81 million mt, 15.1 percent lower than in H1 2014.
Inda expects both the sales and purchases of steel in July will be stable compared to June.
Inda said Brazilian imports of flat steel in June totaled 176,500 mt, up 0.5 percent, month-on-month, and 15.1 percent, year-on-year. Steel imports in H1 reached 986,900 mt, 3.2 percent up, year-on-year.
According to the Brazilian distributors association, steel inventories in June declined 2 percent, month-on-month, reaching 1.05 million mt.
