China focuses on shutdown of all substandard steel production before June 30
China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has lately issued a “Notice regarding the banning of substandard steel capacity and equipment nationwide
The notice in question includes the schedule for inspections from May 2 to May 25 within the scope of the NDRC’s plan to shut down all substandard steel production capacities in China before June 30. Accordingly, the NDRC will send nine working groups to all major hubs of substandard steel production to inspect progress on the shutdown of such facilities.
Early last week, Chi Jingdong, vice chairman of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), told reporters that 500 steel mills in China with a total annual output capacity of 119 million mt had been identified as producing substandard steel.
