Vietnam suspends Ca Na Steel project of Hoa Sen Group
Vietnamese prime minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered the suspension of the proposed Ca Na Steel project in the province of Ninh Thuận of Vietnamese steel producer Hoa Sen Group, according to a statement from the Government Office of Vietnam.
According to the statement, it is considered that the project, which is under preliminary evaluation, has been hurried and that information about it is inadequate and incomplete. Mr. Phuc has requested Ninh Thuận province to thoroughly calculate the domestic and world steel demand and to review the planning on steel mills and product structure according to market demand in order to determine the capacity scale. The prime minister has also requested an environmental impact assessment of the project, as well as the evaluation of the total investment, taking into account the transportation infrastructure (seaports, railways and roads) and raw material sources for the project.
